powAIR Sail
Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
powAIR Sail is a revolutionary turbine is a vertical axis windmill that employs axial flux generator that is patent pending. With its innovative design and features, it converts the kinetic energy natural wind flow into electricity for immediate use.
Vertical Axis Windmill Design
The advantages of our vertical axis windmill include:
- Utilizes wind from all directions, eliminating the need to constantly reorient the machine to the direction of the wind and therefore increasing efficiency
- The sails are designed with aerodynamic geometry that catch wind on one side of the sail and slice through on the other side
- Cut in speeds are only 3 - 6 mph
- Spins at low rpm’s, which reduces harmonic vibration
- Light weight design, starting at under 400 lbs, making installation on all types of structures possible
- Ability to harness turbulent winds, making it possible to deploy in urban areas and areas of manmade kinetic energy, such as airports
- The life expectancy of the unit is over 20 years with proper maintenance
Axial Flux Generator
This generator was designed to be utilized in conjunction our vertical axis wind turbine, where energy from the turbine is delivered directly to the axial flux generator at the base of the unit. The use of an axial flux generator eliminates the need for gears and pulleys to increase the RPM’s, thereby producing torque at low RPM’s. Our generator has many benefits that include:
- An efficient generator in all wind conditions
- Expected to generate continuous energy from winds as low as 3 - 6 mph
- The use of axial flux generator eliminates the need for gears and pulley, which decreases the number of parts that can fail
- Having the generator at the base reduces the need for a large tower, provides the unit is structurally sound, and makes servicing the unit much easier
- With the unit running on low RPM’s, the life of the generator is enhanced by reducing the amount of ware and harmonic vibrations
COMING SOON! Self Sustaining Light Poles
Through a partnership with Syracuse University, Impact Technologies is in the process of developing two self sustaining lighting units. One of which incorporates both our wind turbine with patented accelerator plates to increase the efficiency, solar panels, and LED lighting; the other is a solar only application that also utilizes LED lighting. The light poles will be an energy efficient solution to current lighting technology, also reducing the large installation costs associated with the electrical infrastructure to the grid.
Several sizes are in development to encompass a wide range of design needs from walking lights to parking lights.
